    Parodia leninghausii

    Parodia leninghausii is a columnar cactus with approximately thirty ribs covered in harmless yellow spikes. It is native to Southern Brazil. Easy to care for and commonly found in the consumer trade, it is usually a fairly easy houseplant to come across. However, they are often more difficult to find in larger sizes. Slow growing, it reaches heights of one meter. matures into a thick cylindrical column, up to six feet tall. Look for a crown of large, yellow blossoms in spring and summer.

    Chlorophytum comosum

    Chlorophytum comosum, or Spider Plant, is a delightful, popular houseplant beloved by beginners and experienced gardeners alike. Easy to grow into maturity, this plant readily produces small, white flowers and pup plants along long, dangling inflorescences. To propagate, simply snip the pups from the limb and plant directly into soil.

    Nephrolepis exaltata

    Nephrolepis exaltata is a lush, shrubby fern native to tropical regions around the world. Humidity-loving, it grows naturally in moist ecosystems like swamps and forests. Extremely large specimens can reach as high as 1.5 meters high. Occasionally epiphytic, it grows on the surface of one kind of palm, Sabal palmetto.

    Tradescantia pallida

    Tradescantia pallida is a low growing trailing perennial that native to northeast Mexico grown as an ornamental for its beautiful purple foliage. This tender plant is in the spiderwort family and is grown as an annual or houseplant in colder climates in zones below 7. Its botanical name was originally Setcreasea pallida but was reclassified in the genus Tradescantia in 1975.

  5. Tradescantia albiflora 'Nanouk,' a variegated purple and green vining tropical plant, for sale at Tula Plants & Design.

    Tradescantia albiflora ‘Nanouk’

    Tradescantia albiflora ‘Nanouk’ is a low growing trailing perennial known for its striking purple green variegation and violet leaf undersides. A nursery cultivar, it was patented by the breeder in the Netherlands in 2012. It was bred in a program aiming to create a hardier Tradescantia with showier blooms. A mixed success, the blooms on this plant are understated and white, but they’re still quite lovely.

    Cyphostemma juttae

    Cyphostemma juttae is a deciduous tree from Namibia with a bulbous stem structure that brings to mind its common namesake – the elephant’s foot. Each spring it sprouts huge serrated leaves that form a tight canopy. This dramatic transformation from bare caudex to lush subtropical tree takes place in a matter of days. Younger specimens have vibrant, delicate leaves that grow in blue and fleshy as the plant matures.
